2006’s Planet Hulk and 2007’s World War Hulk took the Hulk to the other end of the universe and back again, revitalizing the Hulk and bringing him back to the forefront as one of the premier Marvel characters. It seems that on the other end of the universe though, the Hulk left behind a son he thought burned away with his pregnant mother.  And, Skarr, Son of Hulk, proves more mindless and vicious than even his father.

Not-so-random:  Wow, I've done 50 of these already?  Anyway, one book really stuck out to me this week: Thor #10.  J. Michael Straczynski's Thor manages to completely blow away the old image of Thor.  So far, the book has been less about fighting and more about learning and each week I am riveted.  The most mind-blowing change comes in what they did to Loki.  Making him a woman is such a beautiful touch.  So far though, instead of being a deceiver, Loki seems to be playing his games by constantly telling the truth.  If Straczynski really has changed Loki from the Deceiver of Lies into the Deceiver of Truth, I will love him forever.  What a mind fuck for the Asgardians to so long have been unable to trust Loki to moving to an idea where they know everything she says is the truth.  And the best part is that she clearly is doing so for her own agenda.  The manipulation of truth makes it more difficult for the Asgardians to not second guess themselves.  It is brilliant.  Knowing that what she says is true, but also knowing her motivation behind telling this truth may not be altruistic?  such a mind-fuck.  LOVE IT.  Throw Oliver Copiel's art on top of this amazing story (though I really wish he was doing Secret Invasion/Avengers stories) and you have a Marvel book you absolutely should be reading.

I thought that they had acknowledged that Balder was Thor's brother back in the mid nineties, but I could be mis-remembering. It was always a sticking point for me as they had ignored the mythology on that fact up until then. But what ever, it was a great read regardless, and I am enjoying the run.

Yeah, but even if they did mention it mid-nineties - it was like 'oh by the way' and then promptly forgotten again.

Which reminds me of my favorite Kirby era quote by Balder; after fighting bravely along side Sif, he is ignored the moment Thor walks in. 'Whilst humble Balder is quickly forgotten.'
